  Christina Perez is a I am more of teaching "coach" than a teacher. I like to get my students to take ownership of their learning so they capitalize on their successes. Independence is my goal in whatever I teach. I try to be fun and engaging because life is too short and being a positive influence on others is needed for anyone living and breathing during this time (myself included). I work often with immigrant families to help them learn all there is here in the USA and help them find the opportunities best for them. My own mother was a very smart business, who came here from the middle east searching for a better life and she did it all- without ever learning to read or write. I have enjoyed teaching incarcerated youth in Baltimore. I have taught at elementary to community college level. I teach group fitness classes very part-time and regular do volunteer with my own children (teens) so they learn humility and gratitude. My personal struggles and successes in education led me to seek a variety of employment to fully understand any of the challenges students can face. My passion for teaching and learning keeps me actively taking extra classes, reading literature, and listening to podcasts on this over the years to keep me abreast of potential needs of students. I research the best practices and most recent strategies to assist students in overcoming language or learning challenges, while being part of the IEP process for my students. I share my experiences over the years with my students to encourage them and challenge them to rise above their challenges and not lower expectations. I spend time getting to know each students’ personal motivations for learning and use that to achieve success in testing and set goals. I enjoy giving feedback on possible ways the students can leverage their strengths in future projects or careers. Many of my past students have said that I make class fun through humor and multimedia usage. I have experience giving many types of standardized testing and reporting to the Department of Education for student funding. I have worked with the CANVAS online system for teaching and grade reporting. I genuinely enjoy working with people on a team and in a collaborative environment where each individual knows their role and sticks to a timeline, when necessary. My strength in this setting is problem-solving through quick assessments of needs and encouraging team members in their roles in relation to those needs. My aim is to act humbly when working with others so that everyone is a valued member of the group resulting in better projects and outcomes.
