Over the last 16 years, I've gone through a whole slew of industries. Verizon was where I cut my teeth in learning data pathing and SS7, while working in a high-impact customer-facing environment. At Cingular (which later became AT&T) I learned how to excel in both pre- and post-sale environments: Show up with your sales team, pay attention to the DETAILS of what the customer wants, and don't promise deliverables you can't produce. Afterwards, WIN the sale. Build it better than everyone else does, and make sure it will stay running. Be creative; don't respond to an RFP with the standard BOM that every other telco will respond with! From there, I jumped into the straight-up IP networking industry, and that's where I've stayed. Why? I love this field of work. This entire career is all about learning. Nobody knows everything, but everybody can learn something. I love diving into new technology. There will always be something i don't know, but then it's another opportunity to learn and utilize something new. I've built data centers all over the world. I love it. Tell me your requirements and I will sculpt a future-proof network that will do everything you need. If I don't know how to do it, so much the better; I love a challenge, and it's always a blast to learn from someone who's done something I haven't. I don't care if you need 2 Tbps from your Openstack cluster; tell me what you need and I WILL make it work. If the mark is 2Tbps, let's bang out a CRS-8 or MX2020 BoM, order a slew of protected DIAs from your favorite tier in your favorite countries, load up your favorite LB (I prefer the VIPRION chassis, the VCMP is fantastic) and your SD-WAN devices. Allocate, aggregate, automate, appreciate. Networks work well if they're built right. Spend the time, the money, and the coordination to do it right the first time. The end.
