Before starting contracting in 2014, I had nearly 8 years’ experience in Gas and Power trading, 6 as team lead/manager. Here I was running teams of applications support analysts and developers, covering the trading process from front to back office, on a wide range of commodities / derivatives markets as well as Treasury FX/IR trading for EDF Trading and in a similar capacity for one of the BP trading divisions covering primarily gas, power and LNG. My previous roles have all been in the same types of financial services environments, but moving back and forth between technical IT roles and business teams (derivs trading): I have done everything from setting up and running small hardware test labs (in 1997) through to picking up the phone and executing trades with brokers on the CME trading floor (2003-2006) and had exposure to just about everything in between those two roles. The recurring theme is that I am passionate about doing what is right for the business in the long term, especially where I can help to deliver an improved business outcome leveraging a combination of functional and technical knowledge.
