I am currently working in the NHS at Royal Brompton Hospital on the Cardiorespiratory ward (Rose ward) as a senior staff nurse (Band 6). I have previously worked at St.Marys which was my first job after qualifying and where I continued to work for 18months after I left my permanant position on the general paediatric ward. Upon working on the general paediatric ward, I was fortunate enough to gain skills working with my patient workload and taking charge on shifts. After a while of being qualified I took on a position, with another colleague and 2 of the paediatric consultants in managing and running a ward attender/ outpatient style clinic which included; a prolonged jaundice clinic; review slots including: ENT, ID, Plastics, IV medication and gen paeds. Whilst in this role myself and the other colleague put a referral pathway into place amongst other implementations to ensure smoother running of the clinics. When I left the general ward, I continued to work at St.marys but as a bank nurse so I was able to gain experience in the other departments. One of my areas of interest was the Heamatology / Infectious Diseases ward. Here I learnt a lot about working with children undergoing BMT (bone marrow transplants) and I really enjoyed the work. Following on from this I worked at Harley Street Clinic as a Senior Staff Nurse (mostly as a nurse in charge) - Paediatric Oncology and Cardiology department. Here I decided to broaden my experience in heamatology and look into oncology. So far I have completed my chemotherapy book 1 (PAN London) and currently working my way through book 2.
