Since making the decision to change careers, I have logged 100+ observation hours through Texas Woman's University. In addition on my own time I have 100+ independent observation hours and 33 volunteer hours. I do this to immerse myself in my dream job as much as possible before taking on the lead role. My goal is to limit my own learning curve as much as possible in order to maximize my students' experience immediately. One thing I am most excited about is joining a school and getting completely involved in the culture and exuding school pride. Through my many hours of observations, I have noticed that collaborative efforts are lacking across content areas. Activities and games in the gym can easily be tied to a book or story the students are learning in English. They can easily be adapted to a Science lesson on the solar system. The gym is not a place to turn off your brain and play dodgeball for 30 minutes. It's a place that students will be engaged and participate in activities that promote positive experiences in the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains everyday. The metaphor I like to use for myself is Frankenstein's monster, I am built from the pieces of all my cooperating teachers. I'll use the seating arrangement style from coach "X", I will integrate some of the intervention techniques from teacher "Y", and finally, I loved the way teacher "Z" organized her field day.
