Not only did I transition into being the phlebotomist but I also contribute a lot of my time to my team mates and community. There are several major goals and on-going responsibilities I do uphold under my belt. Before my transition as phlebotomist/ MA hybrid, I was a Medical Assistant. I continue with helping with the providers, triaging the patients, completing tasks, champion roles, being flexible with helping the team while doing my normal responsibilities and float to different locations. I did take the responsibility to help train and lead new Medical assistants, I was able to manage the work flow, made sure that they were completing their competencies, shadowing them on all of their duties that were assigned by providers and guide them through the EHR system. Overall, it was a success and each MA felt comfortable with working on their own with any provider. I worked closely with the Nurse Manager to provide great resources and suggestions on how to improve the work flow and relayed it over with the medical assistants and providers. As of now I still continue to show leadership, be a team collaborator, and provide great resources for the whole team. As being the Phlebotomist/MA hybrid I do draw labs in office. I tend to draw an average of 10 to 20 labs a day, that includes patients that are already scheduled, and for patients that are seen in back office. I took charge of the Nurse Visit schedule as well, so patient who get scheduled EKGs, Injections of medication, Vaccines, Tb readings, or any standing orders that provider had ordered and I complete those by myself, as well as the COVID19 tests. I do keep the lab equipped with supplies, which I do order myself from Labcorp or Sonora Quest and leave great resources for the team, and the new hires from all clinics that I do train on how to perform venipunctures, collect and process labs, the correct order draw and in-house testing that we perform such as Rapid A1c, strep, influenza, HCG, UA dips and COVID19 test, those sessions do tend to take 2 hours. Once a month I do Quality Control checks for the in-house tests and make sure that is no supplies or medications that will expiring for the Crash Cart, then it is documented in the our QC books for records. I am assigned to complete champion roles, which resolves that I empty biohazard bins in the exams as well as sharp containers. On occasions I do complete STAT/ non- urgent referrals that providers assigned to me. I also complete Clinical Tasks that are assigned to me in EHR as well.
