A wide variety of technical skills were required, including CPR, collecting samples for lab analysis, gathering patient information, performing and monitoring ECGs, and assisting doctors and nurses with procedures and wound care. More importantly, it has introduced me to the rhythm of the emergency department and the teamwork required to provide optimal patient care. Prior to my roll as ED tech, I worked for a variety of companies under my EMT license providing “advanced” first aid. The skills gleaned from that experience helped me develop a modicum of comfort with the triage process. Finally, during nursing school I was at a wide variety of clinical sites where I practiced the skills learned didactically, including patient care and assessments, medication administration, wound care, vital signs and lab values, charting in epic, and providing patients with education and support. Additionally, I hold a Master of Science degree in Marketing and Communications, and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from Boston University. I also attended the Master of Industrial Design program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
