  Cathal Jordan is a In the last couple of years I have been working as the Controller for the Northern European Region and Finance Leader for Asia. As Controller for the Northern European Region I am responsible for all aspects of financial control for UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. I am also the overall Finance lead for our Asian business, incorporating all aspects of Financial Control and Commercial Finance support for that Region (principally China). Prior to this I had been working as the finance director for New Markets, in a cross functional team looking at expanding into New Markets, specifically focusing on Asia (with particular emphasis on China) and Latin America (Brazil being the priority country). In support of this commercial expansion we had to set up companies to specifically allow us execute on our strategy. I have acquired a great deal of knowledge of the specific issues to be faced when looking to enter these markets and countries, as each one presents its own unique set of requirements. From determining appropriate levels of Capital, how to inject same, setting up of bank accounts through to ensuring compliance with all local Tax and Regulatory reporting requirements, there was a significant amount of work required, but it was extremely interesting and challenging. On top of this we also needed to focus on launching commercially in these countries and delivering on our targets. All of this has allowed me to develop a skills-set far beyond my core finance and controllership responsibilities, which would have been my focus in previous roles.
