She practiced primarily in rural and community health (FQHC) settings since becoming a nurse practitioner in 2004. While she has enjoyed teaching in a variety of programs since 2004, she has been working with NP students since 2013. In 2020, she transitioned to a full-time academic focus, her goal is to impart the skillset and intricacies of practice that make “a good nurse practitioner great” to her students. Dr. Matyac has a passion for serving the Latinx population sparked by travel to Mexico as a nursing student and to Guatemala as a family nurse practitioner student. In 2023, she took her first group of students to Oaxaca, Mexico to study social determinants of health and provide health screenings in local communities.
