I had the opportunity to see what students and staffs go through first hand when neither received the much-needed resources for successful matriculation. All of my life I watched my mother and grandparents teach in under-served and gang-ridden communities. They still receive superior ratings and high praises from their students and parents. Watching them was very influential in my decision to follow in their footsteps. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I ventured out to try different things. I excelled in every field that I experienced, but while teaching I feel I am where I am most needed and I am at my best. Right now, I am at the point in my life where I know I am making the right choice for my life and many others. When it’s all said and done, it is very fulfilling to me to know how appreciative and successful students and parents can be in the long run, when they have teachers and parents who are committed and prepared. It is a good feeling to know that what you do for someone matters at the end of the day. It is also important to work with and for people who understand the value of the teachers. It is important that leaders understand how to treat team members to maintain a calm and healthy environment.
