Carlos Shanka Boissy Diaz Email & Phone Number | Carlos Shanka is a young sustainability enthusiast, a climate advocate, and a citizen of the world born and raised in the paradisiac Canary Islands, Spain. He gained a unique perspective and appreciation of the natural world that surrounded him, and soon moved to the UK to study biology at the University of Bristol. During his time as a student, he led as the Coordinator for Spain at the COY16 and COY17, and the Chair of the Sustainability Network at the University of Bristol Students’ Union. He engaged in sustainability consulting prematurely on projects for the Bristol City Council and Bristol's Green Capital Partnership. His contributions to transforming the institutional climate, investment, and education strategies, as well as promoting sustainable careers and climate literacy opportunities, were recognised through different awards. After supporting the United Nations Development Programme on Research and Communications, he focused on designing youth initiatives at different levels of participation. In the Canary Islands, he started a sustainability youth hub. In Spain, he is co-creating an umbrella group for youth in climate. He is a member of environmental organisations such as NextGen ClientEarth, European Climate Pact Ambassadors, or The Climate Reality Project. Additionally, he has served in his capacity in climate and environment on high-level negotiation spaces in the UNFCCC and UNEA, as well as participating as keynote speaker in different conferences and forums. He is in the neverending pursuit of understanding the deepest meaning of sustainability, mitigation, and resilience from a multidisciplinary perspective, taking action on the climate and environmental crises through policy and advocacy, globally and locally.
