Cara Gottardi is a Leading a basic science research program in a clinical division. We study how cells stick to each other. Particularly those that form a sheet-like barrier between the environment versus our insides. We hope to improve their capacity for repair after injury. We design mutant proteins for expression in cells along with live imaging analysis to answer some questions. For everything else, we collaborate with structural biologists, biophysicists, fly geneticists, computational biologists and physician scientists.
