  Cansu is a I am a programmer at the US Census Bureau with most of my work in a shell-only Linux environment as well as SAS programming. I am also a part of an innovation team for my division, where I translate current production SAS programs into Python. I am master’s candidate for mathematics and statistics at Georgetown University with an interest in analyzing international economic data and global events. In 2021, I started an ambitious project that aimed at estimating the GPS coordinates of an image solely based on the geographical features of that image (ie: mountain ridge lines). My motivation was to one day build a tool to aide the warfighter in tracking individuals or assets based on social media images without the meta data. In 2020, amidst COVID, I built a web application called The Indicator which pulled key economic data from FRED and BLS, and displayed graphical visualizations on a dashboard. This was an ever-important dashboard that revealed the magnitude of dire numbers regarding unemployment and inflation at the peak of COVID lockdowns. Previously I worked as a research data analyst for the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University, where I was a part of many consulting projects – analyzing large data sets, identifying trends, solving problems, and developing results for our clients. This experience also taught me valuable leadership and teamwork skills that I hope to continue building in my career. If you catch me outside of work and study, I am probably reading/watching sci-fi, lifting weights at the gym, or walking our unbelievably handsome dog with my husband.
