Callum Beashel Email & Phone Number | I graduated from the University of Newcastle with B. Biotechnology (Honours Class 1) in 2020 with a major focus on Molecular Microbiology. I am particularly interested in bacterial infections and biofilms, mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, and exploring new pathways to target for new antibiotics. My honours project focussed on microbial transcription and the major enzyme, RNA polymerase, that catalyses this process. From 2016-2019 I was placed on the Faculty Commendation List for academic excellence, and in 2020 was awarded the Faculty of Science Faculty Medal. In 2017 I was awarded the Priority Research Centre (PRC) for Chemical Biology and Clinical Pharmacology Scholarship consisting of a 6-week placement at the Mater Hospital studying novel cancer treatments. In 2018 was awarded the Faculty of Science scholarship to conduct a similar placement project in the field of molecular microbiology. Through these experiences from different environments, I have developed a deep interest with science and research.
