My research takes a lifespan approach to understand the complex associations between normal age-related changes, chronic health burdens, and outcomes that reflect an individual’s ability to maintain safe and independent functioning. The overall goal of my research is to prevent unintentional injuries, support functional independence, and promote healthy development and aging using behavioral, cognitive, and technological solutions. My research is interdisciplinary in nature, using psychology, public health, and transportation science to take a holistic approach to health and behavior. I am a professional member of the Gerontological Society of America, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Transportation Research Board. I am a past awardee of the NIH/NIA Butler Williams Scholars Program, a former scholar of the NIH-funded Sustained Training on Aging and HIV Research (STAHR) program at the University of California, San Diego, a former APS Rising Star Awardee, and currently a funded scholar through the University of Kentucky's NIH-funded K12 Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) program.
