Caitlin Berreitter Email & Phone Number | As someone who is passionate about changing the world, I am not one to back down from a challenge. I left my home in southern California to study government at Hamilton College in central New York, only to graduate and promptly return to school to study political communication at Emerson College in Boston. The past few years have resulted in several cross-country moves, a lot of late night study sessions, and tight budgets to make unpaid internships work. But, through it all, I have learned that change requires passionate perseverance and courage to stand up to the status quo. From learning how to advocate for myself as a 17 year-old at Hamilton College, to diving headfirst into advocacy and policy work at Common Cause, I am excited to face new and uncomfortable situations that challenge my own understanding of the status quo. Working in advancement and State Legislative offices, I am skilled at personal (i.e., responded to constituent concerns by phone and email, volunteer training) and digital communication (i.e., updating webpages, mass emails, event planning, social media postings for Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts, write blog posts for several of advocacy campaigns). I work with traditional public relations forms such as press releases and bi-weekly newsletters. I have policy research skills used in drafting legislative reports and bill proposals with accompanying one-page informational briefs. Ultimately, I am actively looking to join an organization that is also committed to initiating change and connecting with people. I am not interested in sitting at a desk all day long, staring at a computer screen by myself. Rather, I want to learn about people and their personal experiences, and use that knowledge to help uplift those around me. I aspire to work within a communications department for a grassroots nonprofit, as I believe that the communications field is overflowing with careers that offer unique opportunities to engage with—and learn from—people. I am optimistic about the future of communications and ready to change the world.
