  Burcu Buyuktopcu is a I always have been impressed by how can foods change your life and body. The food you eat every day provides such important substances you need to survive. As long as we correctly feed ourselves, our body will be both healthy and stronger which is one of the pleasures of life. As a food engineer, when I am at a market (usually shopping takes more time for me than other people because all markets are like showrooms of food companies for me) or restaurant and staring at the product or meal, I can always see more than a food. I can imagine the huge background of production or the possible effects of food on the body. I know how to read nutrition facts and understand label tricks or which food is better than another. Food engineering is bringing consciousness and wellness to one's life! I must admit that I was not growing with the idea of being a food engineer. Studying food engineering was a decision after the university entrance exam that I took because I was really interested in biology, chemistry and mathematics. I really enjoyed and learned too many things in my university life, especially in Erasmus times! After I was graduated, I decided to try something out of food engineering. Meanwhile, I got an offer from ESC to be a volunteer and work as a community developer in Hungary. With this project I was able to experience lots of things, I understood that why ESC is called a lifelong learning opportunity. Being a community developer helped me to get new and different perspectives and competencies such as creativeness, organizational skills, and project management, I could even combined food engineering with it. I organized food safety and awareness informative events and it drew great interest from local people. Learning is a passion for me. While I am working abroad and encountering new things I did not stop improving my food engineering knowledge. I really like attending professional training, following trends in food production and technologies, and talking about food with people. I love my job. For me, the next step is taking part in the sector of the food industry, implement and improving my competencies while contributing to the company.
