Budha grew up in India and moved to the United Stated to pursue his Ph.D. in behavioral genetics at Bowling Green State University. During his time in The Neurobiology Department at Harvard Medical School, and the Molecular Human Genetics Department at Baylor College of Medicine, Budha identified the developmental and genetic basis of isolation-induced behaviors and designed high throughput assays. His background in functional genomics helps him identify targets, carry out functional validation, and design rescue strategies. In his current position, Budha investigates deep sleep states and their role in homeostatic recovery and the underlying physiological and neuronal mechanisms. His long-term interests are combining his experiences in molecular genetics, neuroscience, and systems biology to identify molecular targets for therapeutic interventions. Budha is passionate about science education, outreach, and inclusion. He has been a guest instructor for Neurobiology Course at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, NY (2012-2015), and Neuroscience Session Chair at East Coast Nerve Net at The Marine Biological Laboratories at Woods Hole, MA (2016). Currently (2023-), he is an Instructor at Pueblo Brain Science Initiative which aims to build diversity in Neuroscience, at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque, NM. He intends to keep contributing to cutting-edge research and innovation by crafting impactful narratives and helping facilitate informed decision making.
