Bryan Bennett Email & Phone Number | My journey starts in Salt Lake City, Utah where I grew up skiing and playing outdoor sports. I learned to ski in the Cottonwood Canyons, initially with ski racing then progressing into backcountry touring. My family and I would take yearly whitewater rafting trips on rivers such as the Colorado, Green, and Yampa. My love for science and medicine combined with the outdoors when I discovered wilderness medicine as a teenager. I received my EMT certification while attending Itineris Early College high school, concurrently earning both my high school diploma and associates degree. Following high school, I decided to continue my education at the University of Montana, eventually earning two bachelor degrees. I became more involved in wilderness medicine as an instructor for Aerie Backcountry Medicine. I taught a wide variety of both classroom and field based courses, including wilderness first aid and wilderness EMT. I furthered my clinical skills while working as an emergency room tech. I was able to combine these wilderness and clinical skills as a volunteer ski patroller. I moved back to Utah in 2015 with high hopes to attend medical school but found it difficult with my non traditional path. I weighed the options and decided on attending Ross University Medical School. This ultimately was one of the most important decisions of my life and has shaped me into the doctor who I am today. I learned that being an IMG (international / Caribbean medical graduate) meant that I had to work harder than I had ever to succeed. My path took many turns including surviving a category 5 hurricane and finishing my basic sciences on a boat. I was fortunate to have completed my clinical rotations at Mount Sinai in Chicago, IL. This safety net hospital is a level 1 trauma center in downtown Chicago and provided me an incredible wealth of experience. Ultimately through dedication and hard work that I didn't even know I had, I was accepted into emergency medicine residency at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. I am currently a third year resident with hopes to return to the west after graduating in June 2023. I have learned a great amount at Arnot including rotations at Baltimore Shock Trauma, 3 months ICU, PICU and peds EM. Our medium sized hospital provided an excellent balance of learning without the backup of specialty services but also having good pathology. It also provided many opportunities for procedures.
