He soft-launched Brian Dabson: Rural Policy Analysis & Research in June 2021 after five years as a Research Fellow at the School of Government, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Until 2016, he served as Associate Dean, Research Professor, and Director of the Institute of Public Policy at the University of Missouri's Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs. In October 2018, he became Advisor to LOCUS Impact Investing and, in April 2019, assumed the role of Senior Research Fellow at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte's Urban Institute. In September 2019, he became a consultant to the Community Strategies Group at the Aspen Institute, contributing to the Thrive Rural initiative. Brian was President of the Consortium of University Public Service Organizations (2014-2015), Board Chair of the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship (2009-2012), the Founding Director of the RUPRI Rural Futures Lab (2010-2012), and a member of the Community Development Advisory Council, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (2007-2012). From 2004-2010, Brian was with the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) and, before that, was President of CFED (formerly Corporation for Enterprise Development, and now Prosperity Now), a Washington, DC-based national nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunity through asset-building, entrepreneurship, and economic development. He held that position for over 12 years, from 1992-2004. Before joining CFED in 1992, he was the managing director of a European consulting and research organization specializing in economic development, training, and employment issues for nine years. Prior to that, he worked for 13 years in metropolitan and city governments in Liverpool and Glasgow. He was a chartered town planner and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute for nearly 20 years. Brian Dabson has over 40 years of experience in public, private, and nonprofit sectors on both sides of the Atlantic dedicated to expanding economic opportunity.
