Brent Clayton Email & Phone Number | I am a medicinal chemist trained as a synthetic organic chemist with 14+ years of industrial and supervisory experience. I began pursuing my career in chemistry at Brigham Young University where I was able to participate in meaningful undergraduate research studying both thermodynamics and photochemistry. My organic experience was primarily focused on photochemical and radical reactions with tear gas. I then moved to Penn State for my PhD working on the synthesis of streptorubin B using alkynyliodonium salts and ring closing metathesis. I began my industrial career at AMRI in Albany, NY working on projects ranging from oncology to anti-viral to CNS. I transferred within AMRI to Indianapolis to start their insourcing collaboration with Eli Lilly. While there I slowly moved into a supervisor and lab management role, however I always enjoyed getting in the lab and running my own reactions. I then had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the production and manufacturing side of the pharmaceutical industry while working as a project manager with Evonik where I have the responsibility to lead cross functional teams prepare, develop, and execute manufacturing processes to produce pharmaceutical intermediates and API's. I've now found my way back to the lab leading research to explore new targets for Alzheimer's disease while working with a team that combines the best of the academic and industrial approaches to the discovery process. In all my spare time I enjoy the outdoors with my family, actively serve in local youth organizations, and coach a running club for about 40 elementary school kids each season.
