Brandon Damon Email & Phone Number | In my role as an Injection Blow Molding (IBM) Process Developer, I take newly manufactured molds and the process of creating a specific recipe of variables (the process) which produces the optimal, in-spec, desired plastic part from the new mold. That's the short version, the reality is that it is very easy to make a terrible part, so in order to produce fantastic parts for our many medical, food, and cosmetic customers, I take a detailed, wholistic approach to IBM process development. There are so many factors which go into producing a successful IBM part; whether it be a glossy mascara bottle, or a pill bottle for life saving medication. I must consider the plastic resin being used, its abilities, limitations, and characteristics; the design of the mold's tooling and it's interface with the molding machine being used, the temperatures of the molten plastic resin, of the mold's components, and of the various water lines running through the mold, along with the many other pressures, speeds, temperatures, and durations of a multitude of actions. All to ultimately inject the preform of the bottle, cure the molten material to the right consistency, then blow the preform to final dimension. Air pressures, temperature controlled flowing water and oil, hydraulic oil pressures, and the complex interaction of many machine and mold components have to be managed to produce a viable part. This role has required a deep understanding and ability to think through the many physical processes taking place within industrial machinery, within the production plant as a whole, within the mold tooling, and within the plastic resin itself. My ability to consider and theorize about the impact of small changes to these many variables to the final product has been crucial for the success of my projects; including extensive testing, experimentation, trial and error testing, and collaboration with our design engineers, tool makers, and inspection department. Without my belief in carefully designed experimentation, thorough documentation, and robust data collection and analysis, many of the successes I have achieved would have been impossible. Along with all of the process development, I also use my mechanical aptitude to achieve proper installation of the mold components and the complicated set-up of the molds using many hand-tools, cranes, auxiliary equipment, and measurement devices. A lot goes into the complex set up IBM molds; and my capacity to be focused on the small details, while still holding the whole big picture in mind has been invaluable.
