He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and from the Navy’s Deep Sea Diving and Salvage School in 1979. He qualified as a Naval Nuclear Engineer in 1984 and was a pilot of the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle Mystic a manned submersible with a 5,000 foot diving depth. Mr. DeRoos has completed several professional training programs in technology commercialization – specifically, the FastTrak Entrepreneurial Studies Program of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the Dawnbreaker Commercialization Assistance Program, and the Mohawk Commercialization Leadership Program. Mr. DeRoos has been involved in the start-up of three technology-based ventures. Professional accomplishments include: 10 Patents; the Federal Laboratory Consortium Technology Transfer Award; Two R&D Magazine R&D 100 Awards; Industry Week Magazine “Research and Development Star” Award; and, Industry Week Magazine “Technology of the Year” Award. Adhering to disciplined technology development processes is key to the professional accomplishments achieved.
