I worked in the media field for over 15 years as a journalist, a photojournalist, and field producer for various affiliates (NBC & CBS). I carried those skills over when I co-founded Blur in 2008. Starting a business required all my media skills and tested my business skills. Quickly I learned what it took to run a business; backend book work, establishing systems, client relations, project management and business strategy. There was both strategy for our company but also our client’s strategy. When new employees come aboard I moved into the Executive Producer position. In that capacity, I worked on key messaging, script writing, storyboarding and the full production of videos. Working with clients on this level opened doors and possibilities. I started with Midwest Basement Systems (now Midwest Foundation Repair) in 2018. I was looking to apply my skills to a single company. I also wanted to help the marketing department and include automations in our workflows. After turning that department around both increasing leads by 15% also helped retain 40% more clients. Late 2019 Thrasher Foundation Repair purchased Midwest and I was asked to help lead the marketing department in the main office in Omaha. At Thrasher I worked on several aspects in the Marketing department. I have negotiated contracts, purchased media, hired team members, developed new programs, managed vendors, developed campaign strategies, created content and worked on several CRM/ERP integrations. Although the work has been challenging at times, I loved it. At Thrasher I was the fractional CMO. I loved helping turn that department from a reactive team, to a proactive team. I also learned I have a unique skill set that allows me to jump into companies, learn about them and help make changes that result in meeting goals and exceeding expectations. Unlike a consultant, I'm embedded in these companies. Typically companies needing a fractional CMO or Marketing Director have one of these three situations; They are bringing their marketing team in-house and need help building processes and their team, They need help while they're in growth mode, this can be for a campaign or help the marketing department grow along the company. Lastly, a vacated CMO position resulting in a departure. This is still a new field but we're looking forward to helping companies here in Central Iowa and beyond.
