  Bharath Kumar is a I joined Monsanto in June of 2012 after completing my Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Iowa State University (what a great choice!). I grew up in a small village near Bangalore, India. My father is a small-holder farmer, and we raise vegetables, finger millet, rice and coconuts. Heavy crop losses due to irregular onset of monsoon and severe infestation by pests and diseases are common challenges farmers face in the region where I am from.Having seen the challenges farmers face, getting education in the area of Agriculture was always my passion. I completed my undergraduate in Biotechnology in 2007 at Sir MVIT, Bangalore which gave me very good foundation in the plant science research area. My interests continued to move towards Plant science after my undergraduate studies, hence decided to do graduate studies. For my masters degree, I was lucky to get admission at University of Missouri, St. Louis. I worked at both UMSL and Danforth Plant Science Center during my graduate study. Coming from the farm background, I always wanted to be in a more applied science research area. Hence I decided to do Ph.D. in Plant Breeding at Iowa State University. After my Ph.D degree in June of 2012, I accepted Technology Development Research Associate (TDRA) role at Monsanto's Gothenburg Learning center. After working as a TDRA for close to one year, I worked as a DEKALB/Asgrow Technical Agronomist for Northwest Iowa until August 2016. In my current role, I work with Science Team at Climate Corp. to coordinate, execute and manage observational studies within Research Partner Network in the Iowa Region. I also work with farmers, dealers and sales team to help to ensure they have success with our products every year.
