I loved that there was always something new to learn & do in the ER. I had to keep my clinical skills sharp & be ready for anything. I felt the need to learn more & went to Detroit Receiving ER, a Level 1 Trauma Center. I was directly involved in the care of multiple medical conditions & trauma injuries. I worked with world renowned doctors & gained extensive skills & knowledge. Through intense ACLS code situations I learned to remain calm & tap into the knowledge I have for the benefit of the patient. Through reading & interpreting lab studies & imaging I learned to explain a new diagnosis to patients & families. Working in Detroit was not only dealing with diverse medical situations, but diverse people situations. I had to stretch out of my comfort zone to care for homeless, members of gangs, prisoners. It’s not just the low income or minority patients, but all patients that have to navigate talking to multiple specialists & doctors who are too overloaded to truly answer questions. I was able to see how disjointed our medical system is & I wanted to change that. Therefore I went to get my Master’s to become a FNP. I want to help provide holistic care for all my patients. At the present time I am an FNP in family practice. I continue to hone my clinical skills & keep apprised of the most up to date evidence based practice. I love working in the medical field; there is always new research to help us best care for our patients. I look forward to continued growth in the medical field & providing my patients with the best care possible in other areas of medicine.
