  Ben Rattray is a Ben is an Associate Professor in Exercise Physiology at the University of Canberra working with the UC Research Institute for Sport and Exercise (UC-RISE). Ben teaches across a number of Exercise Physiology related units at both undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as convening of postgraduate research courses. Rattray was an invited author for five chapters of the first edition of Exercise Physiology, Australia and New Zealand textbook, published in 2014, a common undergraduate prescribed textbook. Ben’s research concentrates on understanding the links between exercise and the brain, including the role of exercise in improving cognitive abilities, and the cerebrovascular response in both acute and chronic settings. This work is applied in a range of contexts including military, occupational, health and high performance sport settings. Ben now heads a small research group, the Active Brain Research at UC. But, to be honest, he would rather be orienteering, running, mountain biking, adventure racing, playing basketball, kayaking or skiing (all badly), and be spending time with his family.
