I care deeply about finding ways people can thrive, sustainably and equitably, on this planet, and my aim is to develop science that can help chart a path toward a more sustainable future. My background is in landscape ecology— I began my career investigating ecosystem services in agricultural systems and how our working landscapes can be structured to enhance flows of benefits to and from agriculture. In recent years, I have focused on scaling modeling to meet the growing demand for globally-available information to support decisions in an increasingly globalized world, while still retaining the fine resolution that reflects the spatial heterogeneity within landscapes. Whether the decisions themselves are focused at the global, national, or landscape scale, decision-makers need rapid assessment for ecosystem services, readily available and actionable information to support prioritization, weighing trade-offs, or strategic planning. To meet this challenge, I co-founded Spring. We are leading the development of a platform that enables evaluation of nature's benefits to people in minutes, anywhere on the planet, drawing on advances in Earth observations, data science, and decision-support.
