I am a web developer in my almost-forties, with over 10 years of hands on programming experience and a solid scientific background. I have broad interests, am curious and always looking to better understand the world I live in. Mainly IT related stuff. I am also very much into sports, especially triathlon and other endurance sports. On a professional level I am always interested in a good challenge, a motivating environment and interesting colleagues, who do more than just work. I like the creative part of software development, but also the concrete results it gives you. It motivates me to create new (digital) things and add value to the world. I believe in adding real value and that a focus on short-term 'money making' can actually be detrimental to this (e.g. think greedy algorithms, and the unwanted artifacts of simple capitalism). I am therefore not sorry that I have no particular talent for money making (or of course it is the other way around, but I'm too subjective to concede to that ;). I am looking for assignments that allow creativity and freedom and prefer those in innovative fields instead of the 'paths well trodden'. I am not interested in assignments where I'm expected to crank out as much code per day. Because to be frank, I'm not really good at that. The speed at which you can type is NOT really a bug factor in your skill as a programmer. I want to work for companies that understand this.
