A certified teacher, she spent five years as a high school English and history teacher and two years as a textbook editor at Holt Rinehart and Winston. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Plan II, Ms. Knaggs obtained a secondary teaching certificate from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Knaggs is now enjoying an empty nest with her husband in Austin, Texas.
