I am currently working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at CMCC (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici). My tasks include the inspection of how ML algorithms can help identify the drivers of extreme events such as heat waves in the reanalyses, in the historical climate simulations and in the future climate projections. In the recent past I have worked at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), developing ML procedures for the improvement of probabilistic weather forecasts in the Netherlands. My PhD project (KNMI - Wageningen University) was focused on the homogenization of long series of observed daily temperatures from all Europe. The improvement of the quality of the data allowed to better detect the signals of a warming climate and to highlight which areas are more exposed to extreme events such as heatwaves. I studied General Physics at the University of Pisa and completed my education with a MSc in Earth System Physics at the University of Bologna, emphasizing my curriculum on Atmospheric Physics, Climatology and Meteorology. Climate and Earth Sciences are my greatest passions in and out of work, but my interest also goes on the actions for the increase of awareness about climate change and for the improvement of the policies for adaptation and mitigation.
