Currently enjoying geology after a rewarding professional career with Shell. I was a tutor and advisor in regional structural geology. CFTB (Collisional Fold-Thrust Belt) specialist, PRG (Principal Regional Geoscientist), and SME (Subject Matter Expert). Globally, and specifically in the Middle East and North Africa New Ventures Team of Shell International E&P in the Netherlands. I joined Shell in 1983, after my PhD at Utrecht University, on the subject of detachment tectonics in the Central Apennines of Italy. Some 5 years in structural geological research with Shell, mainly involved with sandbox modeling of strike-slip tectonics, was followed by 5 years in Damascus, exploring the Euphrates Graben of East Syria (1987-1992). Integrated exploration/development assignment at Shell in NW Borneo Brunei followed (1992-1997). After return to Shell's SG group in the Netherlands (1996-1999), I got involved with several integrated field development studies in Egypt, Syria, Oman, Nigeria, and Australia. Since 2001, my focus turned back to exploration, mainly involved with regional structural framework studies on the Caspian Sea and the Middle East. Got involved with most rewarding field geological expeditions across the Zagros Fold belt. Still fascinated with structural geology, trying to maintain professional roots: back to the (deformed) rocks...... Skilled,versatile, experienced geologist, able to capture/visualise complex structural geometries. Able to translate outcrop observations into concepts. Sensor for remote sensing, space image interpretation as well gravity/magnetics Experienced interpreter of poor quality data bases, where analogues are key. Rewarded tutor en teacher, with passion to pass on knowledge and experience.
