Casually Uncommon has been showcased in fashion weeks and have graced the Grammy's red carpet and we have produced photoshoots in Thailand, Israel, Peru, Costa Rica and the United States. What began as my brand's ambition of creating meaningful gigs for my unhoused neighbors, got amplified with the covid lockdown. I cofounded a non-profit, Artists Building Communities to provide emergency shelter for houseless individuals by partnering both housed and unhoused volunteers to build together. The more we built and connected folks towards paths of permanent housing, I quickly fell in love with supporting, collaborating with, and learning from this community. I also volunteered as a full time social worker for a handful of inspiring individuals during the lockdown and when my unemployment and covid-rental assistance ended, I entered the mental health and housing fields formally. I saw the emergency and transitional housing programs that currently existed and was heartbroken seeing how unsafe, chaotic, and incomplete they were. These vulnerable communities deserve better. So that's what we are building today. Our non profit stopped construction of emergency tiny homes once the eviction moratorium ended in Oakland, but we still had housing on our mind. Luckily my partner (the other cofounder of ABC) and I went to a We ❤️ SF meet up, at the House of Web3 in early 2023. We spoke to some major innovators in tech and shared our dream of building safe and engaging interim housing programs that unhoused folks would actually want to join. Geo's team has dreams of truly ending homelessness in San Francisco, which is not something you often hear. Now, Geo, a Web3 Browser, is sponsoring us to work towards these solutions to make that lofty dream a reality. We are researching, learning, and connecting with the most inspiring organizations around, to document their best practices so others can follow. Together our unhoused community receives access to recovery, workforce development, and mentorship so they can achieve self sufficiency. Finally, we are building dignified interim housing that will focus on the quality of the individual's experience vs solely the quantity of how many clients are "served".
