As a leader in gerontological nursing and health services, I am committed to improving the quality and safety of long-term care for older adults and the quality of their everyday lives. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Gerontological Society of America, and have received funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ). I have conducted studies to examine the relationship among staffing, service availability, and quality of care outcomes in assisted living, improving the identification and management of medical illnesses by caregivers of older adults with dementia, and antibiotic stewardship in nursing homes. I received a 1.5 million grant from AHRQ to create an evidence-based toolkit to increase and improve the involvement and engagement of resident and family caregivers in the safety of assisted living.
