Ann Thorn Email & Phone Number | For the past 17 years, I’ve spent my days working on a series of biomedical devices and products, the most well known of which is called “HeartStart.” Our product is a defibrillator designed for public access; the mission, to improve the survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest. I’ve worked on all phases of design and development for HeartStart and other related products—from product design to testing, compliance, and clinical trials to receive FDA approval. I use my Master’s degree in electrical engineering in the product design and testing components of my job, and my project management skills to keep projects moving seamlessly and on schedule. In a field where products require FDA approval and the project lifecycle is marked by years rather than months, I’ve been lucky to see my products move from start-up to market. I’ve been with HeartStart throughout this process. Along the way, I’ve received my paycheck from three companies while working on the same products. In the early stage, I was the 30th employee at an energetic start-up, Heartstream. Developing our defibrillator product required close collaboration with colleagues and hands-on involvement with all phases of product development and approval. After our product went to market, we were acquired by HP and then later Philips Healthcare. Like yoga, the process of taking a medical device from bench to market requires great flexibility. I’m decisive and move quickly when presented with challenges and am proactive in achieving goals and meeting deadlines. But I slow down when getting to know people as relationships are an essential component of success in any endeavor. I've transitioned from my role at Philips to the exciting world of 98point6 where we are reimagining primary care.
