I research environmental politics, generally dealing with interest groups and governments squabbling over who is allowed to do what with land. In the US, I've studied the US Forest Service (for my PhD at Cal) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Reclamation. Just after finishing my PhD, I came to New Zealand on a Fulbright grant in political science. In New Zealand, I've been studying the politics, law, and economics of land reform in the Southern Alps of the South Island. Since 2006, when I started to report my findings, the New Zealand government has overhauled this whole land reform enterprise.
