My passion is in the global InfoSec / Cyber-Security sector, and the NZ tech-sector. Cyber is a global issue today, that's only growing in importance. We've moved beyond infosec being "the protection of computers and networks" to "securing our digital lives". More human interaction happens in the digital realm than the physical. More cyber-crime is committed every day than physical. Our digital and physical worlds have merged, and the cyber-security sector exists to try and protect that. But we have an issue... I often say that if we stopped releasing new software and tech tomorrow, our industry would be busy for the next 10 years plugging all of the security flaws that exist today! But new tech is being pumped out daily, providing deeper services, effecting our physical world, and ultimately creating more risk. We're not going to solve this problem just by training more cyber-professionals and working more 24x7 shifts. We must continuously innovate in our defences. This is NZ's epic value-prop. We are a nation of innovators and our tech-sector is world leading, pushing the boundary of new techniques and ideas. In my opinion the whole cyber industry is at its infancy. There is a lot to do, with so many issues and opportunities ahead, and I'm so excited to be in middle of such an awesome cyber-security tech-sector here in NZ!
