Andrew Wightman Email & Phone Number | The last seven years have been a journey of self directed data projects in my current position. Those projects yielded a realization of just how much I want to pursue a career in the Data Analytics field. An early project used existing GIS skills to paired with advancing skills in Python to analyze data and run simulations to determine optimal boundaries of new inspection districts. From there continued trainings in MS Access, SQL, VBA, and Tableau opened the door for numerous other data projects. Using these new tools to move manual repetitive tasks into self built databases with user interfaces. This lead to improving the efficiency of the users by simplifying steps and automating tasks. Additionally access to this untapped well of data provided valuable metrics and an ability to visualize data. I have loved visualizing data with Tableau. I am excited to see where I can continue to grow and what other areas I can explore. My career journey started over 20 years ago. The first decade was spent in professional kitchens. I have yet to find another position with such a fast paced and high stress environment. These years built a strong foundation of skills and work ethic. Skills such as organization, time management, adaptability, communication, problem solving, consistency, and learning to work efficiently. What began as a love for food eventually became a love for creativity and the challenge of always finding a better way to accomplish tasks. I decided pursue other career interests and turned back to school. Over the next decade I balanced work and school. Obtaining an Associates in Civil Engineering Technology, certificate in Geographic Information Systems, Bachelors in Geography, and most recently a certificate in Data Analytics. I have used every opportunity provided to me to continually improve my skills and build on past experiences. I have been working for the City of Portland for more than seven years. I quickly moved from an entry level Engineering Technician position to the Lead Engineering Technician III position. As shown above data has played a huge role in my current position. The love of understanding ingredients in a dish is now a focus on finding ways to gather and visualize data in a way anyone can digest. Data is the key to understanding how to improve processes and tell a story. My career goal is to find a position where I can continually improve and expand my skills in data analytics and visualizations.
