I still seem to be busy though, working with Impermanence, an exciting dance company, establishing Bristol’s first permanent dance centre. And with the wonderful Bristol Old Vic - Britain’s oldest continually running theatre. Of course my heart is still with Plimsoll. I can definitely say, being part of it's outstanding success, is one of the proudest achievements of my career ... which started, a long time ago, in 1978 at the BBC - anyone remember that far back? When Grant Mansfield asked me to join Plimsoll in 2014, I was just finishing up an amazing contract as EVP of Landmarks and Specials for Discovery, working with some truly inspiring people. The idea of starting a production company again, from scratch, didn't exactly fill me with joy. But Grant's ambition and novel idea to hire a handful of hugely talented Execs from day one, and then go out and sell shows, was an ambition I couldn't refuse. Of course, we now know it worked. In just eight years he built a world renowned producer of premium documentary, reality and wildlife programmes. In 2022 the Company was valued at more than 130m (170m) when ITV took a majority interest stake. Has anyone grown a production company quicker? Not many I'd guess. I've been lucky enough to live through some of the best years of TV. Being part of the 80's independent boom, spending almost 20 years with Tigress Productions and then becoming Head of the BBC Natural History Unit. I've worked on some of the best shows ever made, with the best people you could ever want to work with. Now I listen, advise and teach, as visiting professor at UWE (University of the West of England). Creativity is still a big part of my life.
