During this time, I taught myself to use HTML, PHP, CSS and MySQL and continuously improved these skills. Doing public relations, particularly for my most successful project, https://www.gratisparken.de (a Germany-wide database for free parking spots), gave me experience in dealing with media representatives. I benefitted similarly from giving interviews for print and online media as well as radio and television. I try to utilize my IT knowledge whenever possible: By validating Excel spreadsheets I was able to gain some initial experience in the field of CSV / computer validation. Furthermore I have been responsible for the training of new users of a LIMS system for several years. ★ Sailing: The perfect hobby for project managers ;-) ★ Very similar to a project manager, as the skipper on board of our sailing yacht I elaborate a passage plan towards the desired destination and make sure external factors (weather) are properly taken into account. As soon as the boat leaves the safe harbor, I constantly check and adapt this plan to the actual conditions at sea. I take the overall responsibility for the safety of the boat and the well-being of the (family) crew. I also make sure that the overall project goal “Arrival at the port of destination” is achieved on time.
