Amberly Alene Ellis is a I am an independent documentary filmmaker, writer and educator. I am currently an MFA student in Film and Media Arts at American University, and a recent graduate of University of Maryland's School of Communication. My passion for film and storytelling drives my work documenting and researching the intersections of media, cultural politics and race in Latin American and the Caribbean. I am well versed in both digital and film production, editing and set design. My most recent projects include my documentary film, Hermanas en Ruedas, a film that follows the stories of women in the underground skate community in Havana, and my film Bullets without Names was awarded for Best Documentary at the American Visions Awards in 2014. I am a Tinker Grant and Ruby Artist Grant recipient. This semester, I working as a graduate teaching assistant for a course on Visual Literacy at American University in Washington D.C.
