The focus of my research is on the use of critical creativity within a wide range of learning contexts including arts, education, health, social work, justice, public, private and third sector organisations. My expertise within this is in the use of Pretext Drama and related creative pedagogical forms and I have substantial experience of doing this work in settings which are trans-professional, interdisciplinary and intercultural. I'm particularly interested in the relationship between creativity, democracy and education and the practices and politics of the arts. I have extensive experience in creating, developing and maintaining international networks, leading long-term capacity building projects, intensive programs, research initiatives and securing funding for these. I have acted as scientific adviser to large scale projects, board member and trustee to small, medium and large scale arts organisations and staged pretext based interactive performances in collaboration with colleagues locally, nationally and internationally. As a skilled and creative workshop leader and, researcher I am regularly invited to consult, speak, run courses and evaluate projects nationally and internationally. I have worked in over 20 countries with current on-going long-term projects in Finland, Palestine, Japan, Spain, Sweden and Estonia. My ongoing collaborative work with Dr Anne Passila at LUT University, Finland has been central to recent developments in my practice and research. I'm a National Teaching Fellow and currently Professor of Drama Education and Distinguished Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Arts & Humanities, University of Chester where I Co-Direct the centre fro Research in to Education, Creativity and the Arts through Practice (RECAP).
