Aliza Benitez Mph is a My degree in public health from Northern Arizona University helped set me up for a position as a nutrition instructor and classroom assistant giving me my first experiences in community health and education. After a little over a year in these positions I was invited to apply these skills in an international, cross cultural setting as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala. During my time in Guatemala I not only developed my skills professionally but I also refined many soft skills such as flexibility, cultural competence, patience, and communication. Once my time in Guatemala came to an end I not only walked away with a new set of abilities, such as being fluent in Spanish but with a desire to continue serving international populations. This desire lead me to my next experience of helping promote women’s leadership through facilitating critical thinking classes and planning monthly cultural activities for university aged women in Cambodia. Currently, I am looking to apply my acquired knowledge in my educational pursuit in order to continue having a positive impact on the world.
