I have had experience in working in environments such as Carstairs State hospital but due to family issues work closer to home. when first qualified I worked 5 nights a week in charge of a 60 bedded home in Edinburgh for a year, where I gained in confidence and my clinical abilities and judgements until I saw the shift pattern caused me to drift away from my now husband so I went back and sought a job closer to home and where I twice had been as a student in a care home called the Orchard Care Centre in Tullibody. Started at Forthbay care home in June 2001 due to better shift pattern. I was quickly promoted to charge nurse of the unit I worked in and then deputy manager by the time I got married in July 2002. Due to my son being born in 2003 prematurely with heart defect and chromosome disorder, I took a step down as he was in and out of Yorkhill and had a few close calls. I went back to the Orchard due to better working conditions and I have been there ever since October 2003. Due to life's challenges, my son's health and losing a baby at 9.5wks it has taken me a while to build my confidence up and climb the ladder again. I'm now the Charge nurse of the Orchard Care Centre and predominantly the locked EMI unit.
