When I worked as a substitute teacher I received assignments on notice as short as fifteen minutes. I never failed or let a teacher down. That dependability earned my reputation as a reliable, and excellent, teacher. That reputation led to longer assignments. Some were outside of the classroom, such as running the MAP Testing at Grayslake North for four years or for seven proctoring their AP Tests. Others were more traditional. In my career I have covered seven long-term absences, some on less than twenty-four hours notice. Again, I did not let the schools, staff, or students down in any of those assignments. Regardless of circumstances, whatever my assignment has been, I have tackled it with competency and poise. I am reliable and will get the job done. This extended outside of education too. At Quinlan & Fabish I did my utmost to get the customers what it they needed, be it a beginning rental instrument or a top of the line, professional, instrument. I continue to share my passion for music as a trumpet player in a local community band. The band knows that they can count on me. All of my jobs have a great deal of personal interaction. Whoever I am interacting with, I do whatever needs to happen to help that person. Sometimes it’s helping them learn the day’s lesson. Sometimes it’s being an ear they can talk to. In all cases, my students leave knowing that they were able to count on me. “You want to be the guy the guy counts on.” That’s who I am.
