  Alexander Fell is a Since completing my Ph.D. in hardware engineering, focusing on Coarse-Grained Reconfigurable Architecture, I have been driven by a passion for exploring the intersection between hardware and software design. This has included researching System-on-Chips (SoCs) and embedded systems, specifically interested in developing energy-efficient solutions for harsh and remote environments. At IIIT-Delhi in India, I worked on a project developing embedded systems for nest monitoring in Antarctica. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into efficient system design and architecture while teaching computer architecture and embedded systems. While at NTU in Singapore, I worked on adapting a RISC-V processor to mitigate side-channel attacks automatically, which enabled the development of hardened code without requiring extensive background knowledge. Today, as a researcher at the Barcelona Supercomputer Center, I focus on developing a new distributed processor architecture designed to target dense and sparse HPC applications. In pursuit of this goal, I have worked on creating Coyote, an open-source simulator based on Sparta and Spike, to test and refine our hypotheses. Moving forward, I am investigating optimization techniques for the RISC-V vector instruction extension. While my career path is rooted in academia, I remain committed to ensuring that my research has practical applications and can help benefit society. To that end, I've spent a significant amount of time in the classroom and on Udemy, teaching students about the exciting discoveries I've made in the field. In summary, my unique background in hardware and software design has given me a holistic perspective allowing me to approach problems from multiple angles. This, combined with my commitment to giving back to the community, has driven me to make meaningful contributions across the field of computer engineering.
