  Alexa alex Huang is a An award-winning teacher and author, Alexa (Alex) Huang is currently Founding Co-director of the Digital Humanities Institute, Director of Graduate Studies in English, Director of the Dean's Scholars in Shakespeare, and Professor of English, Theatre and Dance, East Asian Languages and Litratures, and International Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Her book, Chinese Shakespeares: Two Centuries of Cultural Exchange (Columbia University Press, 2009), has received the Modern Language Association's (MLA) Scaglione Prize, an honorable mention of the NYU Joe A. Callaway Prize for the Best Book on Drama and Theatre, and International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS) Colleagues' Choice Award. The book is a study of the interactions between ideas of "Shakespeare" and "China" in fiction, film, and theatre. In Weltliteratur und Welttheater: Asthetischer Humanismus in der kulturellen Globalisierung (2012), Huang argues that Aesthetic humanism--as a secular investment in shared cultural values--counters various practices of subjugation such as colonialism and cultural imperialism that have dominated the recent historical record of globalization. She has edited special issues of Shakespeare: Journal of the British Shakespeare Association (Fall 2013), The Asian Theatre Journal (Spring 2011) and Borrowers and Lenders: The Journal of Shakespeare and Appropriation (Spring 2009). In addition, he has also co-edited Shakespeare in Hollywood, Asia and Cyberspace (Purdue University Press, 2009) and Class, Boundary and Social Discourse in the Renaissance (2007). Her research has been supported by the NEH, ACLS, International Shakespeare Association, Folger Institute, and other institutions and agencies. She has appeared on BBC Radio, Voice of America, BBC TV, BBC World Service, and other television and radio programs to discuss cultural globalization.
