I investigate a diverse variety of circumstances to determine if the medical causes of death can be found. Having done so, I administrate the process, utilising a variety of IT platforms I establish contact with the families of the deceased to gauge their issues and concerns, and report back to HM Coroner. Having established the facts of the event, I present them to HM Coroner for his decision. With his permission I arrange post mortem examinations, and depending on the results of those examinations, arrange to open Investigations and Inquests. I publish Directions from the Court to order that statements, reports and investigation be accomplished to allow the full facts to be discovered. I liaise with Merseyside Police Officers and SIO’s and a variety of outside law enforcement agencies, such as HSE, HMRC, other Home Office and Non Home Office Police Forces, and NGO agencies as necessary. Once an Investigation is complete, I either discontinue those which are found to be of natural causes, or go on present the facts at an Inquest before HM Coroner for his decision. I deal with complex Investigations, often where Art. 2 of the ECHR is engaged, such as deaths in HM Prisons and other custody settings, Police contact deaths and Road Traffic Collisions. I assist families of the deceased to obtain death certificates after Investigation and Inquest. I deliver a high quality of customer service, with elements of family liaison, bereavement care, file preparation and presentation. Further, I deliver high quality presentations of the service the Coroners Office provides, including an input in Coronial law, to Medical Professionals, bereavement services and police officers during training.
