Background On obtaining a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University of Belfast Alan Henry joined the Wave Power Research Group at Queen’s University to study for his PhD under the supervision of Prof Trevor Whittaker. His research focused on the hydrodynamics of the Oscillating Wave Surge Converter, a bottom hinged, flap type, wave energy converter in shallow water. During his PhD, Aquamarine Power Ltd. was created to develop the Oscillating Wave Surge Converter concept commercially and is now known as Oyster®. Alan joined Aquamarine Power Ltd. in January 2009 after his PhD and became a Senior Research Engineer working on various aspects of the development of Oyster, such as performance and loading. Alan founded Rockall Solutions in 2015 to use his skills and experience to support developers in the marine renewables industry. He has worked with several wave energy converter developers, academic institutions and state bodies.
