As a Solutions Engineer, I reinvent and advocate for the product which is the realization of a client's business needs. This plays out as an Agile epic tale of advocacy for the client. My role in this tale may vary; perhaps I'll be integrating an operational tool for a client to integrate a third-party API with the client's own business service. Or, I may be working on a partial-Cloud solution to provide a façade to a legacy service. Whatever the business need, I'll approach it from multiple angles to plan and engineer a product: Security, maintainability of code (often, reducing or removing the need for code), reliability, resilience, durability and availability of various components, long-term maintenance and support, usability to the intended client, and design aesthetic. With today's tools being so numerous and often overwhelming, my mission is to home in on specific tools to provide the most cost-efficient and easy to maintain functional solution, while detailing accurately the value to the customer and documenting for my team. I profess exemplary customer service skills and willingness to get to the bottom of all technical qualms. We cannot continue to move forward if our interpretations of what work should be done diverges, and we must use this to regularly check that work is on schedule. I'm avidly comfortable with Git, JIRA and Agile practices, and enjoy the ebb and flow of frequent customer contact. I will draw on my many years of programming experience including Java, C/C++, Groovy, and Python, and more recently, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, DynamoDB and VPCs. My knowledge of Win/Linux server administration, alerts, load balancing and high availability, as well as BI tools such as Zenoss, Grafana and Splunk provides reference points for what kind of knowledge we want to have about our product, while the tools often vary. As the landscape has evolved, I've worked with serverless solutions including Python Lambda in ECR. I've administered containerized Kubernetes services using Teamcity and Rundeck. When I'm not building captivating solutions, I'm enjoying classical music at the piano, mountain biking, or gaming.
